River District History

The River District Rich in History

Originally the East Fraser River was once home for some of East Vancouver’s most profitable sawmills.  But in the mid 1940’s Vancouver residents saw the potential to build and create a community tucked away in East Vancouver.  The first homes in the area were built in 1945, with schools, retail and transit to follow in the mid 1960’s.

Over the next thirty years the community was built with colourful town homes, spacious single-family homes and condominiums with sweeping views of the Fraser River and East Vancouver skyline, the community soon became known as the East Fraser Lands.

In the early 2000’s local developer Park Lane saw the potential of this 126 acres and started talks with the city to build there vision of a sustainable community that would feature a mix of low and high rise condominiums, townhomes, single family homes, retail, parks and recreation all on one of East Vancouver’s last pieces of waterfront property left to be developed.

This once well kept secret of East Vancouver, now known as The River District, is starting to become the hottest place in town to purchase and sell.
