Renfrew

Renfrew is a well-rounded area of East Vancouver . This area includes several business communities, established residential areas, as well as some up-and-coming ones.

This area has several main streets throughout, however, there is still plenty of green spaces and recreation for children and people of all ages. After all, this is Beautiful British Columbia! Still Creek is a partially visible creek in Vancouver, and currently part of a City of Vancouver rehabilitation project. The wooded area around Still Creek is known as Renfrew Ravine Park- this area contains excellent walking trails.

The neighboring Renfrew Community Park is home to Renfrew Community Centre. It is located near Renfrew Street and E 22nd avenue – It has programs for anyone of any age.  The Renfrew Public Library Branch is located in this inclusive community centre. The community center has a computer lab, swimming pool, fitness center and much more.

Surrounded by playgrounds and parks, this area is ideal for young families.  Norquay Park, Slocan Park and Renfrew Community Park are all home to playgrounds and sports fields- In September check out the gorgeous lantern festival (Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival) which has previously taken place in Slocan Park and Renfrew Ravine Park.

There are plenty of schools in the Renfrew area. From daycares, elementary schools, and onwards.   Located at E 5th Avenue and Renfrew Street, sits The Frog and Hollow Community Place. This is an incredible non-profit organization that serves the Vancouver east side. They have programs for children, youth, adults, and seniors- Including a program specifically designed for permanent residents and new Canadians! The Frog and Hollow also offers childcare, family programs, computer lessons, and a computer lab.

The Renfrew area has plenty of places to shop and get groceries. The quaint neighborhood grocer, Banana Grove, on Renfrew Street and E 22nd Avenue, has a boastful selection and is very affordable- locals LOVE this spot. There are some larger stores just off of Grandview Highway and Renfrew Street which will no doubt have you covered. Just to name a few -Superstore, Walmart, Canadian Tire, and their neighborhood Starbucks. Yes, I do indeed believe Starbucks should be listed here- how else would you make it to all the incredible stores this area has to offer?

Sushiholic on East Broadway has “Las Vegas rolls” which are to die for and Ragazzi Pizza Company, on E 22nd Avenue, has superbly high quality affordable pizza. Burnaby Palace Restaurant on Boundary Road is definitely a local favorite to dine in, our take out, and the Knight & Day on Lougheed Highway will put those cravings at bay- Breakfast anytime? Yes, please.

The Renfrew area is certainly not a difficult area to navigate using transit. There are several SkyTrain stations and effortless bus routes, to guide you through this area of Vancouver.
